The Oakland Beat

With Morgan Jones:

Update on an Update
See older blog about Med Mary in Oakland

Last week the U.S. Supreme Court asserted that the feds aren't going to put up with any of those states and their little medical marijuana laws. Some med-pot advocates held out hope that a Congressional measure would stop the feds from closing medical marijuana clinics like Oakland's, mentioned in a previous post. But yesterday, by a 264-161 vote, the House turned down an amendment that would have blocked the Justice Department from prosecuting people in the 10 states where the practice is legal. Not that the med-pot clinics were waiting; they could smell the drift. Days before the House ruling, Compassionate Caregivers' windows were painted white, and the Green Medicine Group had unplugged their phones and boxed up their supplies. This period in Oakland's history is over.
